Nyesom Wike, Minister of Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has commended President Bola Tinubu for his tolerance of public criticism, stating that Nigerians are fortunate to have a leader who upholds the rule of law despite provocative remarks, during a speech at the flag-off of Arterial Road N1 in Wuye.

Wike referenced a social media post by activist Omoyele Sowore, who called Tinubu a “criminal” in response to the president’s claim in Brazil that his administration had eradicated corruption in Nigeria and contrasted this with the United States, noting that even with open criticism of leaders like Donald Trump, no American would publicly label their president a criminal without consequences.

“You are lucky you have a President who believes in the rule of law,” Wike said, warning that such leniency might not persist under different leadership.

Addressing health rumors, Wike dismissed claims of suffering a heart attack and being flown abroad, humorously wishing his detractors ill while affirming his well-being. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, mocked Sowore’s credibility, sharing a video of Wike at the road project launch to counter the narrative.

Wike also responded to an indefinite strike by FCT resident doctors, highlighting a N25 billion allocation for health sector projects in the 2025 budget, approved in July.

He explained that issues like unpaid allowances and doctor recruitment were under review but stressed adherence to due process. “Nobody will blackmail me or stop me from doing what is right,” he said, noting that the Civil Service Commission had been authorized to proceed with hiring after receiving a waiver.
